Carmen Aguilera ESPAÑOL
LLB. Diplomat, Professor, Project Specialist
Ms. Aguilera has over thirty years experience as a lawyer, diplomat, professor and project leader in Guatemala, Canada and the U.S. Schooled in the United States (Liberal Arts, Washington) and Guatemala (Juris-Doctor Degree, Mariano Gálvez University, 1985), Ms. Aguilera has nineteen years of experience specializing in commercial and criminal procedures.
Ms. Aguilera served for five years as a diplomat and member of the Guatemalan Foreign Service as Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d'affaires in Ottawa and Washington, D.C. In this role, Ms. Aguilera was Political and Legal Counsellor for all bilateral matters as well as handling commercial investment and tourism promotion. During the Ambassador's absence Ms. Aguilera assumed the overall supervision and execution of Mission activities and operations.
Ms. Aguilera was a Law Professor at Mariano Gálvez University and taught in the Faculty of Business Management.
As a Project Specialist and Project Officer for the United States Agency for International Development in Guatemala Ms. Aguilera was responsible for implementing at least six major Justice Sector improvement projects.
Ms. Aguilera currently resides in Calgary, Alberta where she is the past Honorary Consul for the Government of Guatemala. She is a formal and permanent member of the Guatemalan Foreign Service and has been a member of the Calgary Consular Corps since September 2000. Ms. Aguilera has completed courses in the Master’s Degree Program in the Faculty of Law, University of Calgary, and is fully bilingual in Spanish and English with a fair knowledge of French.
